SIFE Team Wins at Regionals

sifeThe CSU Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) team was named Rookie of the Year at the SIFE USA Regional Competition recently in Charlotte.

“The Charleston Southern team accomplished a lot in its first year; they gave an outstanding presentation at the regional competition and looks forward to next year’s competition,” said Dr. David Houghton, the team’s faculty advisor and Sam Walton Fellow.

The SIFE team is one of more than 500 SIFE programs in the United States. Participating students use business concepts to develop community outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.

The SIFE team organized several projects in the Charleston area, including a Commodity Trading Floor simulation in which area high school students became buyers and sellers of oil and developed a deeper understanding of market economics.

The culmination of the SIFE program is an annual series of competitions that provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. Teams compete first at the regional and national levels, then at the international level when the national champion teams from each country meet at the SIFE World Cup.
